Making a balloon arch is a fun and creative way to add a festive touch to any celebration or event. Balloon arches can be customized to match the theme and color scheme of your party and can be created in various shapes and sizes. Whether you’re hosting a birthday party, a baby shower, or a wedding, a balloon arch is sure to impress your guests and make your event more memorable.

What balloons to use for balloon arch?

With so many types of balloons available, it can be overwhelming to choose the right ones for your balloon arch. In this post, we’ll discuss the best types of balloons to use for balloon arches.
1. Latex balloons: These are the most popular type of balloons for balloon arches because they come in a wide range of colors and are easy to shape into arches. They are also inexpensive and biodegradable, making them an eco-friendly option. On the other hand, if the weather is scorching, using them for an outdoor balloon arch is not recommended.
2. Foil balloons: Most of the time, we don’t use foil balloons to create a balloon arch. It is possible to add some foil balloons to a balloon arch made of latex balloons, but creating the entire balloon arch from foil balloons is not recommended because they are more expensive, and it takes more time to make a balloon arch from them. Furthermore, foil balloons are not biodegradable.
3. Link-o-loon balloons: If we use Link-o-loon balloons in the balloon arch, in most cases, we will use only a few link balloons, and we will not create the entire arch from Link-o-loon balloons only (even though it is possible).

When choosing balloons for your balloon arch, keep in mind the color scheme of your event and the space you’ll be decorating. You can mix and match different types of balloons to create a unique and eye-catching design. With the right balloons, you can create a stunning balloon arch that will leave a lasting impression on your guests. Since the year of 2020, Chrome balloons (metallic color balloons) have become extremely popular in balloon decorations because of their beautiful colors.

What else do you need to create a balloon arch?

In addition to your balloons of choice, you’ll need a frame or structure to attach the balloons to. You can use anything from PVC pipes to wire frames, depending on the size and style of your balloon arch.

You can also buy a balloon arch frame on Amazon.

Once you have your frame set up, you can start attaching the balloons. If you’re using latex balloons (which I recommend), you can inflate them to different sizes and tie them together to create a balloon chain (AKA balloon garland).

To attach the balloons to your frame, use balloon clips or make a balloon quad by tying two balloons together (creating a balloon duplet) and then adding another balloon duplet. Then you can attach the balloon quad to your balloon arch frame.

When it comes to arranging the balloons, you can create a uniform arch by spacing them out evenly or create a more organic shape by clustering them together in certain areas. You can also mix and match different types of balloons to create a unique look.

One thing to keep in mind when creating a balloon arch is the weight of the balloon arch. If you’re creating a large arch, you may need to add weights to the bottom to keep it stable. You can use sandbags or water weights to anchor the arch down.

In conclusion, when it comes to creating a balloon arch, the type of balloons you use will depend on the style and color scheme of your event. Latex balloons are a popular choice because they come in a variety of colors and are easy to shape into arches. Foil balloons are great if you want a metallic or shiny effect, and link-o-loon balloons are unique because of their special tabs that allow them to be linked together. With the right balloons and supplies, you can create a stunning balloon arch that will be the talk of your event.

which balloon is best for decoration

When it comes to balloon decoration, there isn’t necessarily one type of balloon that is “best” overall. Each type of balloon has its own unique features and benefits that make it suitable for different types of events and decor. For example, latex balloons are a popular choice for balloon decorations because they are available in a wide range of colors and are cost-effective. They are also biodegradable, which makes them an eco-friendly option. On the other hand, foil balloons are great if you want a more durable option that will last longer and are often used for outdoor events or helium balloon arrangements.

Ultimately, the best type of balloon for decoration will depend on your specific needs and preferences, thought most of the times, balloon professionals will use latex balloons for creating a balloon arch.

When choosing balloons for decoration, consider the size of the space, the color scheme of your event, and the overall style and theme you want to create. With a little creativity and some well-chosen balloons, you can transform any space into a festive and memorable celebration.

how long do balloon decorations last

The longevity of balloon decorations depends on several factors, including the type of balloon used, the environment, and how well the balloons are cared for. Here’s a breakdown of how long you can generally expect different types of balloon decorations to last:

Latex Balloons: Latex balloons are made from natural rubber and are biodegradable. They typically last between 12-24 hours when filled with helium. If they are filled with air and left indoors, they can last for several days to a week or more, depending on the temperature and humidity of the environment. However, latex balloons will start to deflate over time, so they will eventually lose their shape and size.

Foil Balloons: Foil balloons are made from metallic-coated plastic and can last for several days or even weeks when filled with helium. They are more durable than latex balloons and are less likely to burst or deflate. However, they can be punctured or damaged if handled roughly or exposed to extreme temperatures.

We love balloons and we think they are fun!

It is fun to get them as a gift and it is fun to twist balloons into balloon animals, balloon hats, or any other balloon figure or balloon decoration.

balloons can capture attention and communicate across any language barriers.

Simple and effective, balloons of all shades, shapes and sizes are used to add color and bring joy to thousands of parties, weddings or celebrations and company events, every day. Balloons are also used in popular science experiments and form part of children’s development through play.

Air filled latex balloon sculpture

(by Barak Dagan)

But let’s talk for a second about a recent question that was lately discussed in public: Are balloons Biodegradable? Can balloon cause a big environmental problem?

There are two types of balloons in general use – latex balloon and mylar balloons.

Natural latex is produced from the Hevea brasilienesis rubber tree and is the protective fluid contained beneath the bark. Latex is considered biodegradable. If you use latex balloons without releasing them to the environment, they considered to be friendly to the environment!

Even though latex balloons are classified biodegradable, Mylar balloons are NOT classified biodegradable. When released to the environment mylar balloon can even cause electrical power outages. For this reason California laws regulate the sale of metallized Mylar balloons and even prohibit the use of metallic ribbon with helium-filled balloons

foil balloons

a mylar balloon

But here is the important part: All kind of balloons (Latex balloons or Mylar balloons) can be a big environmental problem when they are deliberately released into the environment (also called – balloon release). That’s because what goes up comes down (as litter…)

When are released balloons float up and disappear from your sight but not from the environment…

Even though balloons are not in the list of the top 10 items that pollute the ocean, when not handled and discarded properly they can harm pets, wildlife and the environment. That’s why there are already bans on balloon releases in some places in the world.

The good news is that you can still enjoy balloons without harming wildlife not the environment, if you don’t let go of balloons outdoors and if you won’t use any ribbon (or if you use natural cotton string rather than plastic ribbon) when tying them.

What kinds of balloons are there in the market? Of course, I talk about party balloons: Round balloons, long balloons (also called modelling balloons), latex balloons, foil balloons, plastic balloon, silicon balloons and so on…

Well, there are many kinds and types of balloons, differ from each other in their shape, size, flexibility and material. Some of them are biodegradable and some are not.

As a balloon artist, I have been asked many times about the kinds of balloons by my students, who learn how to make balloon animals or how to make balloon decorations. In this article I will make a review about kinds and type of balloons.

There are many types of balloons, in a variety of sizes and shapes, made of two main materials: Latex balloons (in various shapes and sizes) and foil balloons in a variety of shapes.

Here is the full list:

Round Balloons

These are the birthday balloons, which are actually the normal balloons that everyone knows.
Most of these balloons are made of latex (i.e. pure rubber, which is actually the resin of the rubber tree, therefore, it is a biodegradable material). These balloons come in a wide variety of sizes, ranging from small sizes: for example, a five-inch balloon (marked as 5” balloon or as 5”R (R stands for Round)) through a 12” round balloons, to huge sizes that can be inflated to the size of a person’s height.

The size of the round balloon (for example, 5 inches) is actually the diameter of the balloon when it is almost fully inflated.
By the way, the most common size of round balloons (with which we often create balloon designs for events with) is 12 or 11 inches. Of course it’s also the name of the balloon: 11-inch balloon or 12-inch balloon.

Why are there 2 common sizes? (11″ or 12″)? because some balloon companies manufacture this balloon as a 12 inches balloon and some produce it as an 11 inches balloon.

Buy round balloons

Modelling Balloons

Modelling balloons (also called Long balloons or twisting balloons or balloon animals – or in their professional name “260 balloons”)

These are the long balloons that we use to make balloon animals with (balloon dog / balloon sword etc’).

These balloons are also made of latex, which is the resin of the rubber tree and is biodegradable.  Although most of the people know only one size of modelling balloons, actually, there are 4 major sizes of modelling balloons. These sizes differ from each other in their diameter (their thickness). Their length is more or less equal.

Modelling balloons are marked using the following name convention: Width (diameter in inches) & length (in inches).
For example, 260 balloons are 2 inches diameter & 60 inches long.

260 balloons also have two thicker brothers: 350 (or 360) balloons, and 660 (or 646) balloons. They also have one thinner brother (160 balloon). Why are they 2 names for each larger modelling balloon? Because Qualatex manufacture this balloon 50 inches or 46 inches long, while Sempertex or Betallic manufacture this balloon 60 inches long.

Modelling Balloons Sizes

Buy modeling balloons

Linking Balloons

Round balloons with two ends (Linking balloons, AKA Link-o-Loon or Quick Link balloons)
Round balloons with two ends – also called linking balloons (their brand names are link-o-Loons or Quick Links) are round balloons with two ends: One of the ends is the nozzle of the balloon, and on the opposite side of the nozzle there is another closed “nozzle”. We use this other tip to tie more balloons to it. This way we tie a balloon to a balloon to a balloon, creating a chain of round balloons connected to each other without the need of using any string to hold them together. Then, we use these rows of balloons to combine more and more rows into a big balloon sculpture. Link-o-Loon or Quick Link balloons are made of latex.

Just before we will continue to review balloon sizes and shapes, here are a few examples of creations that are made of latex balloons, made by our balloon art teachers.

Foil (Mylar) Balloons

Mylar balloons (also called Foil balloons) – are balloon that are made of foil (aluminum) that is coated with nylon inside (mylar). These balloons comes in all kind of shapes and are usually filled with helium. They often have different prints on them, such as a unicorn balloon or balloons that looks like letters and more and more.

Because these balloons are made of metal and nylon, they stay very long with air (or helium) inside.

There are many more kinds of latex balloons, like heart balloons, geo blossom balloons (balloons that has a hole in their center), Mickey Mouse balloons, long spiral balloons and more and more.

Transparent Silicone Balloons (AKA Bubble Balloons)

Silicone balloons are new balloons in the industry. They are round balloons that has a different look and fill. The great advantage of these balloons is that they don’t get oxidize (they stay shiny and clear, just like a soap bubble). That happens since they are not biodegradable. In addition, their shape is round just like a ball. (there are many balloon artists that uses LED light with these balloons).
